SolvarixApp-Hosting & Render-Farm

Glossary

Terms and abbreviations that appear on this site -- briefly explained.

Activation (Setup Gate)
A freshly provisioned app isn't reachable at any address at first -- protection against someone else gaining access before you've finished setting it up. Only once you activate it in your account does the address go live; set up your own admin account right after.
API
Application Programming Interface -- an interface programs use to talk to each other automatically, without a human UI. Many catalog apps can be controlled via API in addition to their web interface.
App Catalog
The list of all self-hostable apps bookable on Solvarix -- currently over 280, searchable and sorted by category.
Backup
An automatically created copy of your app data. Included with every app booked on Solvarix -- nothing for you to set up.
BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)
You use your own API key from an AI provider (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) instead of a model hosted by Solvarix. Depending on the app, you enter the key directly at booking time or in the app's own settings after first launch. No local/hosted AI model required.
Docker / Container
The technology that runs every app on Solvarix in its own, self-contained environment -- isolated from other apps and customers, so applications can't interfere with each other.
GPU Render Farm
Attached GPU compute for apps that need more than a CPU (e.g. image/video processing, AI inference). Only used on demand, not for every app.
Instance
Your own, isolated copy of a booked app -- separate from every other customer, with its own data and storage.
LLM
Large Language Model -- an AI language model like GPT or Claude that understands and generates text. Several catalog apps (chat/automation tools) connect to an LLM via BYOK.
Managed Hosting
We run the app for you -- including updates, backups, a TLS certificate and monitoring. You use the app without having to manage the server.
MCP (Model Context Protocol)
An open standard that lets AI models/assistants access external tools and data sources in a controlled way. Apps in the catalog's "mcp" category provide exactly this kind of tool.
OCR
Optical Character Recognition -- text recognition in scanned documents or images. Makes e.g. scanned PDFs searchable (used by Paperless-ngx, among others).
Open Source
Software whose source code is openly available and that anyone may use, inspect and improve. The entire app catalog consists of open-source projects.
Reverse Proxy
A front-facing component that routes incoming requests to the right app -- this is what gives every booked app its own TLS-secured subdomain automatically.
Self-Hosting
Running an application yourself instead of using a vendor's ready-made cloud version -- more control over your own data. Solvarix handles the operations; the app still stays "yours".
SEPA Direct Debit
A payment method where the amount due is collected directly from your bank account. See Payment Methods for currently accepted methods.
Subdomain
Your app's own address, e.g. "yourname.app.solvarix.net" -- set up automatically with every booking, TLS certificate included.
TLS
Transport Layer Security -- the encryption that turns "http" into "https". Every app you book automatically gets a valid TLS certificate, no setup required.
Vector Database
A database that stores content as mathematical vectors, making it searchable by meaning rather than exact keywords -- the foundation for many AI search features (e.g. Chroma, Weaviate in the catalog).
